Grandma adores Chinese food and cooks it quite often. Those who have a basic knowledge of Chinese cooking techniques, access to a Chinese grocery and a bit of patience will find some interesting recipes in Ming Liu's Simple Chinese Homestyle Cooking (Chinese Homestyle Recipes).
Even though Grandma has a pretty well stocked Asian pantry, she would have to go to Boston to fetch home -
Flavored rice powder
Sweet Soy Bean Paste
Bean Curd Sheets
Popped rice
hair tail (Grandma thinks this is a fish but has no clue what kind of fish)
Mung bean sheet
water spinach
sha-cha sauce
preserved green mustard
pork kidney
Still, about half of the 16 recipes might very well be accomplished with the Chinese ingredients readily available in most US grocery stores. The Deep Fried Boiled Egg looks interesting, as does the Chicken with Fermented Black Beans.
