5Sold on it!Dec 24, 2010

Since my previous flatware had a satin finish, I was not sure at first if I wanted to keep this bright, shiny flatware. I looked at it in the package for a couple days and then decided I needed something different from what I had before. So I took it out of the package and have been very happy with my decision. It has a nice weight to it - feels substantial without being too heavy. There is a very nice curve in the handle which makes holding and using the utensils so comfortable. The depth of the spoon area is deep enough to accommodate soups, desserts, etc. Speaking of the spoon area, its oval shape is something I really appreciate. Just right. So overall, I am very pleased with my purchase and would buy this style again. As far as Amazon's delivery is concerned - flawless, as usual.

5Very AttractiveJul 20, 2011

It's my first 18/10 flatware set, and I love them. I cannot offer a comparison review to other flatware sets being that this is my first actual purchase of one, BUT I can definitely comment on my overall satisfaction of them. They exactly as they appear in the Oneida's listing in Amazon. Very shiny as some reviewers pointed out which concerned me at first, but I just wash them as soon as return my plate to the sink and that has helped in maintaining its luster. For the amount of quality pieces this set brings, it is definitely a steal. I have not seen this price for a 12 service 18/10 set from a reputable brand on Black Fridays, after Christmas specials and sales/clearance deals so I am thrilled to have saved money on a day of no savings. Plus I have purchased the Oneida Pro Series Stainless Steel Set (after purchasing Hamilton Beach Pro Gourmet Stainless Steel Set, which I returned) and it is another great product from Oneida. After purchasing a couple of items from this brand, I am pleased to say I trust this company.

Again, this is a wonderful design; it's complimentary a variety of styles: transitional, contemporary, modern, even traditional if done with European influence. I was expecting them to feel a bit heavy but they're fine, not light but of modest weight. Maybe the dinner knives were a bit too lengthy for my liking, but together they are gorgeous to look at. They can instantly upgrade your dinnerware and are great choice for a dinner party.

If I may, I would also want to offer some advice to dishwasher owners who are skeptical of purchasing such flashy flatware. First, this is solely based on my online research of the ongoing issue with rust marks left on flatware pieces after using the dishwasher. Although I do not own a dishwasher (but plan to soon) it was recommended that if flatware should be clean in appliance, then they must be separated from other metals (place them in the utensil component) and do not place any other metal objects such as pots, pans, etc. inside (plates, glass, plastic is acceptable). According to 'real' dishwasher owners, this has helped them maintained the polished appearance (with some towel-drying after wash). The claim is that the nickel material within the flatware reacts to other metal as does copper material during the wash cycle, so the key principle is to keep them separate in that small compartment, especially if your dishwasher is a stainless steel drum. Also, I recommend the Method Smarty Dish Dishwashing Detergent (those detergent capsules) because it has been rated the highest and tested in laboratories to keep everything clean, including dishwasher, since it's biodegradable.

Sorry I am not an expert but I hope you find this review to be helpful.

5Oneida Moda Flatware - Beautiful!Dec 28, 2010
By 2 many books, 2 little time "I love books (history and fantasy especially), animals, guns, motorcycles, walking in the rain (okay, just kidding about that one)... someone who strives to be a life-long learner."
My last Oneida stainless lasted 30 years and I needed flatware more because I was missing a lot of pieces than because it was worn. After looking at flatware in brick & mortar stores, other online websites, and reading a wide range of reviews, I was more than nervous about buying flatware online. There is a lot of variation in flatware and price, and I thought the only way I could determine what I liked was by touching it. Ultimately I really loved the Moda design and the 65-piece price seemed like a good deal if the flatware was as good as I hoped. Since I know that returns are a non-issue at Amazon, I decided to make the purchase. I am pleased to report that I was not disappointed.

This 18-10 stainless flatware is beautiful - simple and elegant. The pieces are substantial and fit beautifully in your hand. We love it!

My only "con" for this review: I had really only wanted a service for 16 and this was a service for 12. I looked into making up the 4 services by buying them individually but found the set price was such a better deal than buying pieces individually so I bought two sets.

If you love the style of this flatware then buy it. You won't be disappointed by quality.

3Not as great as I thought it would beApr 12, 2012

I believe this is Oneida's priciest flatware set, and I expected something really special. The set arrived beautifully, and I love that the hostess set, with serving spoons and fork, was included. The pieces are "transitional" in style... with both a modern and traditional feel. The pieces are also quite heavy, which I personally like. Makes them feel nice and substantial (ie expensive). That being said, the pieces are also a little large. I always find myself opting for the smaller forks and spoons first because the bigger ones just seem slightly too big. Now for the problems. After one washing, I already noticed very small rust spots and pitting. As I wash them more, a few more defects showed up, but it seems to have stabilized at this point, to maybe 5 pieces with the issue (I HOPE). Also, for some reason, the knives don't clean well... there is always a residue left on half of it. I am using the same dishwasher and detergent (Cascade Complete) that I have always used with my prior Oneida set, which happened to be much cheaper than this one. I really am not sure if I would buy this set again. I have mixed feelings about it. Beautiful, but what is going on with the quality??

Update: The knives (all of them) continued to rust, both on the handles and serrated ends. The rust comes off with subsequent washings only to continuously reappear in either the same spot(s) or different ones. I called Oneida and they informed me that the knives are made of a different steel composition to make them stronger and then essentially told me that they are prone to "surface" rusting. I was told to purchase Soft Scrub and that that would remove the rust spots. According to the customer service rep, this is common to all Oneida knives in all of their collections. I am not happy that the knives need special attention. I should be able to throw them in the dishwasher with everything else, take them out, and put them away. I would look into another brand if I were you and do some research to make sure this won't be an issue. Would not buy again.

4Good Flatware, but Could Be BetterJan 22, 2012
By Electric Boogaloo "RG"
This is a good flatware set at a good price. Our family is using this set for everyday use and it has held up quite well in daily washing. Listed are the important facts and features that I noticed:

PROS:
* The appearance is excellent as well as the contemporary styling. You won't get food debris stuck in any intricate design as there is none. The flatware is aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
* The flatware holds up well in daily washing in a dishwasher. It retains its shiny finish and you can get spots from hard water or improper washing, but that is not a fault of the flatware and is noticeable since it is shiny.
* It uses 18/10 steel meaning it has 18-20% chromium and 8-10% nickel content. The chromium keeps it hard and the nickel keeps it shiny over the years. This set is made in Indonesia. As a consequence the flatware will not bend in normal use. You can verify this be scooping hard ice cream with any one of the spoons and notice the spoon will not bend. Similarly the tines of the forks will stay aligned and not bend.
* The spoons are oval in shape, but they are sufficiently deep.
* All of the spoons and forks feel good in the hands except the knife, but it works for what it is.

CONS:
* As another reviewer stated there is a conspicuous "O" inset in a square stamped on the back of the flatware. In normal use this isn't a problem, but if you have this in a formal setting, you don't want that.
* I found only the teaspoon to be balanced, the other pieces are not and the knife is the worst as it seems to have most of its weight in the handle. If you place your utensil in your plate, you must be careful or it will flip out and possibly spill food on your clothes, tablecloth, or floor. You don't want to think about your flatware, you just need it to work, so I think flatware balance needs to have more thought put in to the design.
* The tips of the fork are a bit rough and I wish they were polished to prevent this.

If Oneida revised this design and paid attention to the balance, then it would get 5 stars. Well balanced flatware is generally difficult to get, because it limits the design and size, particularly when you must maintain a volume standard for the spoons. Sometimes you can find balanced flatware, but it may not be as sturdy and subject to bending. I think this set could do a bit better in balance since the styling is contemporary.
