2Eveyone has an opinionFeb 10, 2013
By Cootie Saidit "And tht's all I have to say about that."
The sample that Amazon shows is the most valuable part of the book. From there the rest of the book assumes that you already know how to draw. Since I know absolutely nothing about drawing - it was clear that there was no value for me in the rest of the book. I was so disappointed that I deleted the book from my Kindle as being useless. The cost is $2.99, more than 6 cents a page. That makes the cost of this book sound cheap but there's only 47 pages. The page count is not advertised. I wouldn't have posted this, I see other reviewers are happy with the book. That's good. If someone can find a value for it then clearly mine is just one man's opinion. I have no wish to spoil the author's sales.

4Take Your Doodles to the Next Level!Jul 24, 2012
By Aravis Tarkheena
This is a super-simple, entertaining guide to making your doodles cartoon-strip quality. Presented in the format of a cartoon, each page contains a simple step/tip with tons of examples and humorous interjections from the characters on the page. The guide starts you off drawing circles, then noses, then eyes, and so on. It's so easy even a very small child could pick it up and learn. My only problem with the book is the hangtime between pushing the page flip button and actually getting to the next page. This is because each page contains drawings which takes a bit more loading time than just text. But each page is worth the wait.

5This 'how-to' actually delivers.Jul 15, 2012
By Bloody Well Write
This is a great little book. It is short and simple, but by the time you get to the end of it, you will be drawing professional looking cartoon characters. It is well written, entertaining and delivers as advertized.

510 stars for Brian PlattApr 19, 2013
By Joel Sevilla "jsevilla"
Reluctantly I decide to do this review amazed by some of the reviews I saw. I couldn't believe it. Maybe I should restrain myself.

One person said that cost more than 6 cents a page. How much is a Picasso drawing in a page? Picasso is one of the best cartoonist in history.

The same reviewer said the author assumes you know how to draw. The great master painters didn't give detailed lessons: they thought BY EXAMPLE, by practice. Art students go to museums to draw without lessons, watching, imitating. You have to try by yourself, nobody can eat for you.

A lady wants step by step instructions: there are for free hundreds of references of that kind in Internet and in a lot of Kindle books for very low prices.

She says it is kids drawings (like Picasso's?, like cave painting?)

Soorry if I am being rude but can we say with this kind of reviews. Buy the book!

The Brian Platt style is simple, naive, spontaneous, abstract; With very few lines he expresses in a fun way ALL emotions and mains characteristics that make a human being; by abstraction (a real art) he leaves the observer free to build the whole image, he suggests, points and you go by yourself to find out the whole thing. It is your construction also!

I see two problems with this absolutely marvellous book:

One: Brian Platt is a genius, he is one of the few Picassos in the field of cartoons. For sure its is very difficult to imitate jus one of his lines. Do you remember the Picasso's horses and bulls? with very few lines he built marvellous works of art.

Second: Unfortunately Brian Platt doesn't say anything about digital drawing so important in this times. I personally try the Platt's style in vectorial drawing software. It works marvellous! I am developing a cartoon book with this tools and Brian examples.

That's all I wanted to say. This little drawings are made with four little strokes each one: ;-) :-( :-)

Do you like Gustave Doré drawings? Nooooo? Whow!

Detailed lessons? Take a pencil and a piece of paper, draw one crooked circle (the head), two little points very close (the eyes), one little curve (the mouth). That is drawing! You can put a little nose if you want :-)

5Surprisingly Brilliant!Sep 21, 2012
By mrejunkie
This book is the only simple book I've found that teaches a beginner step-by-step how to draw cartoons.

Other instruction manuals give too much theory and discussion; this one gets straight to business.

Other instruction manuals start too complicated; this one starts from scratch.

Other instruction manuals give a few examples and say, "draw like that"; this one actually gives you practical exercises, like simple modules in a course.

Other instruction manuals teach you tricks on drawing faces only, for example; this one quickly teaches you how to cartoon just about everything you'll need: faces, bodies, scenery, etc.

Other instruction manuals give you too many options and leave you overwhelmed; this one gives you one basic style to start with, after which you can build to greater complexity.

This book is simply brilliant and brilliantly simple. I haven't seen anything like it. One of my favourite quotes is from Da Vinci: "Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication." This book captures the meaning of that quote.

I'm almost never this impressed with a book. What a pleasant surprise!

This book has gotten me so excited about finally learning to cartoon--I can't wait.

One final wonderful aspect of this book is the price: $2.99, as low-priced as you'll find a book on how to draw cartoons. It's worth 10x that much.
