Careful in older homesApr 02, 2011
By Ryan Cowdrey These socket sealers will definitely do what they are supposed to do if you have flush, even walls. Generally speaking though, I would assume that most people needing to insulate their outlets probably live in old homes, as I do. My walls are plaster and are fairly uneven in spots. I was able to get these installed on a few outlets, but because of the added thickness when installed, I had trouble in spots that were not flush. It's not a fault of the product necessarily, but something to consider when purchasing them. The best bet is to skip this all together and spray foam around your outlet boxes.

Useful to plug an unexpected source of draftsDec 27, 2011
By K When I first found out about this product I was a little incredulous - how much cold air could possibly leak in through electrical sockets? Before buying them I tested several of my sockets for drafts. (I just unscrewed the socket cover and held my hand up to it to feel for a draft. Another technique is to hold a lit candle in front of the uncovered socket to see if the draft is strong enough to put out the flame.) Lo and behold, the sockets on the outer walls of the house DID let in a noticeable amount of air. It wasn't just a colder ambient temperature - I could actually feel a soft air flow coming in through the socket. I also tried this with the light switches; for some reason, they didn't feel as drafty as the electrical sockets. Since this product is pretty inexpensive, I decided it was worth a try.
I had more than enough insulators to cover all of the wall sockets and light switches on the outer walls of my house. The insulators were easy to install and fit most of the sockets well. After installing the sealers, the plastic covers were still flush with the wall. On one or two of the sockets, they were about a quarter of an inch short on the top and bottom. After installing the insulators I re-tested for coldness, with and without the plastic covers. Even when the insulators were slightly short, they did an excellent job of keeping the ambient temperature in front of the socket consistent with the temperature in the middle of the room.
Now... I'm not expecting these insulators alone to make a reduction in my energy bill. If they do, I'll update this review. However, I did feel a noticeable improvement in the room temperature when sitting on the couch against the wall. This is what I wanted the most from this product, so I am happy with the purchase. I would buy these again.

Great, a little longer than othersSep 05, 2011
By JesseM These work well and are just a bit longer/taller than the other brand I had been using (FrostKing). I too would like them a bit wider, but they are the same as other brands in this regard.

Little LargerJul 29, 2011
By John M Would be nice if it was a little larger. If whoever hung the sheetrock in your house didn't cut the outlet holes the exact size of the box you might be left with slight gaps on the sides. if they added an 1/8" to each side we could trim if necessary.

If you wish to cut drafts and dust these outlet gaskets are for you. I was very surprised by how much dust and open space I found behind my outlet plates. Easy to install just takes a screwdriver and some time. Seal your outer walls first. I also use child proof outlet covers to further seal unused outlets.
