these little things JUST WORK!! perfected I believe in WWII for the soldiers. This is a great addition to any survival pack, fishing, hiking, camping pack.....very well made. I have had mine for 2 years and its just one of those no maintenance type items that always works perfectly.....they are made by Shelby just as the picture shows, beware of the chinese made pieces of crap, they bend and the blades are junk. The reason you can get 10 of the ones made in china for the same price as 2 of these is because thats how many you will go thru in your life time, the Shelby ones you only need one, they will last forever. once again you get what you pay for, especially when it comes to the cheap china made product.

Robust can opener with a simple but effective designFeb 12, 2012

I won't go into the history of these can openers that were introduced by the US Armed Forces during WWII. The history is available in other reviews and so many other websites.
I was looking for a simple light-weight device for opening cans and was not very happy with the ones available on the Swiss Army Knife or other smaller multi-tools.
This device - the P-51, is perfect. It is lightweight and robust. After seeing other reviews of P-51 and P-38 on Amazon I was concerned about getting a flimsy piece of hardware that might buckle when used. This comes with a US Shelby stamp. Regardless of whether it's the real Shelby manufacturer that supplied the US Army, this one has a rock-solid build. I recommend this product without any reservations.

Most people with any foresight keep a stock of canned food just in case something happens. How many can openers do they have? Typically, besides their electric kitchen can opener, they have one manual or a multitool with a can opener. For as cheap as these are it's worth having a few for back up, because opening a can with improvised tools sucks. "2 is 1 and 1 is none". Also great for a camping and bug out bag back up to your multitool. These P51's are a little easier to use than the smaller P38's and the weight difference is negligible. The hole is a little small for 550 paracord, but if you melt the end of the cord to a point it can be done. Personally I just drill mine out a little larger. Once you get used to them, they actually open cans fairly efficiently.

I bought the two-pack thinking I would get what was pictured. This was not the case. If you purchase this two-pack, expect to get the exact same thing as the 10-pack that the same seller has on here. The product received is a bright stamped steel (versus the dark grey pictured) with two long indentions running most of the length up and down the opener (versus the one long indention pictured). The swing-out cutter does not go up to the top of the opener (as the product pictured does), but rather about 90% of the way. It does say US SHELBY CO on it, but it is a very light stamping that appears to be slightly angled (instead of running straight along the length of the opener). The hole on the product pictured is in the corner, whereas on the product delivered it is in between the two vertical indentions which run the length of the opener. In short, the product pictured looks to be legitimate military issue type production whereas the product I received appears to be a cheap Chinese reproduction loosely based on the original. HOWEVER, and this is why my review is a 3 star instead of a 1 star; It works. It works surprisingly well and delivery was quick.
I wouldn't order this product from this seller again, but I'm not sending this one back.

product doesnt match picture, it is much larger than the original p-51 can opener that i have had on my keychain for 20 years they are made of weak thin metal and of the 6 i ordered 2 have fallen apart in less than two weeks.the first pic is a true p-51 and the other three pics are the one you receive I did not look at the other pictures before ordering my mistake but they are garbage!
